The LUDLUM neutron detector model 42-30H was developed specifically for integration within an environmental radiation monitoring system.
The instrument is characterized by an 3He proportional counter positioned inside a 24.5-cm-diameter polyethylene moderating sphere.
This design allows the detection of neutrons of energy up to 12 MeV.
The detector can be mounted on the wall and is connected to a local display and control unit (Model 375) that allows real-time display of the dose rate.
